Mandatory Personal Accident Cover for Vehicle Owners Increased to ₹15 Lakhs

The government has made it mandatory for the general insurers to provide a minimum of ₹15 lakh worth personal accident insurance cover to bike and car owners. This would increase their premium cost to ₹750 per year from the previous ₹50 and ₹100 respectively. Earlier, the accident insurance coverage was ₹1 lakh for two-wheelers and ₹2 lakh for cars.

Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) said that due to the hike in the sum assured, all vehicle owners will also receive benefits for permanent disability and death.
