Social Media Giants to Fight Back Against New Govt Norms in India

The new rules for tech and social media companies that were introduced by the government recently reportedly didn’t sit well with them. Sources say that the top platforms including Facebook and Twitter are planning to fight back.

The new rules dictate that platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp must remove any content that affects the “sovereignty and integrity of India” within 24 hours. However, industry stakeholders and activists claim that these types of rules can lead to censorship and give the government a chance to snoop on the users. In addition to that, monitoring online content at all times will put a massive financial burden on the concerned platforms.
