Odisha Asks Telecom Companies to Cover 8,000 Villages that Lack Connectivity

The Odisha government has sought expansion plans from the telecom companies regarding covering the 8,000 villages that still lack mobile connectivity. The state has the highest number of villages that don’t have mobile network access today, although there are 35,000 such villages across the country.

Rudra Narayan Palai, special secretary, Electronics and Information Technology (E&IT), Odisha government said that the state government has asked the telecom companies to share expansion plans for FY20 for providing mobile connectivity to the 8,000 villages. He said that Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA) and Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) have also been asked to consolidate their plans and update the E&IT department.
