Government’s Regulations May Put an End to WhatsApp’s Existence

WhatsApp’s Head of Communications Carl Woog said that some of the regulations proposed by the Indian government regarding social media platforms like WhatsApp pose serious risks. He said that if these regulations are implemented, then it could be the end of WhatsApp in India once and for all.

Woog said that the proposed changes are overbearing and inconsistent with the privacy protections expected by the global users. He said that the changes are in conflict with the app’s existing end-to-end encryption and will require the company to recreate the entire product. This could cause the messaging service to stop existing, he said.
