The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and ministry of information and broadcasting service have proposed providing Internet connectivity to rural India by using existing cable TV network.

Sources said that the government’s plan can provide Internet service to around 190 million households that have televisions. TRAI chairman R S Sharma said that the initiative can increase internet connectivity through fixed line networks from the current 7%, compared to the global average of whopping 46%.
