FDI in Food Processing Sector Crossed $1 bn Mark This Year: Harsimrat Kaur Badal

Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that foreign direct investment (FDI) in the food processing sector has already reached one-billion-USD milestone in the current year. She said that when the NDA government came into power in 2014, the sector was receiving FDI of only $500 million in a year.

Kaur said that the government approved FDI in multi-brand retail to promote food processing levels and allow the retailers to obtain produce from the farmers directly. She also added that she was happy to see industry leaders like Walmart and Metro being interested to join hands with the farmers directly.
