Fake Bank Apps Suspected for Stealing Customers’ Data

A number of fake apps of top banks including Citi, Axis Bank, ICICI, and SBI are available on Google Play store. According to a report by IT security firm Sophos Labs, these apps may have stolen sensitive information about thousands of customers.

The report said that the fake apps have logos of the banks which trick customers into believing that they are genuine apps. When asked about these apps, some banks said they aren’t aware of them, while others started an inquiry about them and informed CERT-In.
