WhatsApp Payments Runs into Office Troubles

In what’s likely to further delay the launch of WhatsApp payments, the government has asked the Facebook-owned messenger app to set up an office in India and arrange a team before it’s allowed to launch a payments service in the country. Additionally, the views of the central bank RBI are also being sought with regard to allowing a company to control payments solutions service remotely.

WhatsApp Payments is a digital payment service based on Unified Payment Interface (UPI) and has been operational under a beta phase.
