Tax Collection Increased 18% in Northeast India

Shiv Pratap Shukla, Union Minister of State for Finance said that direct tax collection in Northeast India increased by 18% to Rs. 7,097 crores in the financial year 2017-18. He said that in addition to that, the taxmen have brought 1.89 lakh new taxpayers under the tax bracket as well.

Shukla said after the addition of new taxpayers, there are now 7.38 lakh persons under the ambit of direct tax in the Northeast region. He also informed that as per section 10(26) of the Income Tax Act, nearly 1.2 crore people in 7 states are exempted from income tax.
