Subsidy Payments Worth ₹35,000 cr Could be Rolled Over to FY20

In a bid to meet the new fiscal deficit target of 3.4% of the GDP for FY19, the government may roll over subsidies for food, petroleum to the tune of ₹33,000-35,000 crores to FY20. Failing to do that may cause the fiscal deficit for the current financial year to reach as high as 3.55% of the GDP.

According to government officials who are aware of the developments, the subsidy amounts for petroleum, food, and fertilizer to be rolled over to FY20 are expected to be around ₹13,000 crores, ₹10,000 crores, and ₹10,000-20,000 crores respectively.
