Sikkim Could Become the First in Country to Roll Out Universal Basic Income

Sikkim’s Chief Minister Kumar Chamling who is also the longest serving CM in the country has decided to include Universal Basic Income (UBI) in the election manifesto of his party Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) for the Assembly polls that are just around the corner. If the scheme sees the light of the day, it would make Sikkim the first Indian state to take such initiative and cover all of its 7 lakh residents by 2022.
