Shortage of Health Workers in Rural Areas May Hamper Ayushman Bharat

The lack of enough healthcare professionals may come in the way of the successful launch of around 150,000 primary health centers and sub-centers under Ayushman Bharat scheme.

According to Rural Health Statistics 2017, around 78,569 healthcare centers out of 156,231 sub-centers under Ayushman Bharat are without male health workers, and around 6,371 without auxiliary nurse midwives. Moreover, there are at least 4,236 centers that don’t have either of those. Each sub-center covers around 5,000 in the plain regions, and around 3,000 in the hilly regions.
