SC Seeks Centre’s Response on WhatsApp Payment Service

Messaging service provider WhatsApp as well as the Central government, have been served notices by the Supreme Court seeking a response from the former. This is in relation to the plea that sought direction to prevent the app from rolling out its payment service unless it complies with RBI’s norms.

The plea said that although companies like Google and Facebook have appointed Grievance Officers for users in India, something that is required as per the law, WhatsApp hasn’t made any such provision. It was also not following other laws including the KYC norms, it said.
