RBI Opens up New Investment Avenues for the Banks Through REITs and InvITs

The RBI is now allowing the banks to invest in REITs (Real Estate Investment Trusts) and InvITs (Infrastructure Investment Trusts), as a result of which they can utilize their surplus liquidity. The move is also expected to nurture the cash-deprived infrastructure sector.

The new RBI proposal is welcomed by the banks and real estate builders alike, especially because a great number of real estate companies are already planning to list their REITs.

In its bi-monthly monetary policy for 2017-18, RBI mentioned that the detailed guidelines for the REIT and InvIT investments will be released by May-end this year.
