Over Rs. 3,000 cr GST Evasion Detected in One Year

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State of Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla said that the government detected Rs. 3,026 crores worth of GST evasion in the last 12 months. This was accomplished with the combination of non-payment of taxes and manipulation of the input tax credit mechanism. The total number of cases involved is 1,205. 

Shukla said that 79.53% of the taxes collected by the government are paid by businesses that have an annual revenue above Rs. 500 crores. He also said that only 3.67% of the registered taxable entities make for 79.52% of the net tax collected.
