No GST on Petrol, Diesel in Near Future as Central, State Governments Oppose Collectively

According to a top source, it is unlikely that Petrol and Diesel will be brought under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime anytime soon. This is because both the central government and the state governments have shown a strong disinclination to it as they fear it would lead to a massive loss of revenue.

Although GST was launched with the idea of “One nation, One tax”, five key commodities viz. petrol, diesel, natural gas, crude oil and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) are still kept out of its purview.
