New Inflation Index for 10 Services to be Issued on Trial Basis

The center will release a new Producers Price Index (PPI) in June for 10 services including railways and telecom on a trial basis, an official said. They said that it aims at tracking inflation in services like transportation, banking, insurance, postal, etc.
At present, two main indices are used for monitoring the prices of commodities and services in India which are Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Wholesale Price Index (WPI). The former tracks inflation at the retail level, and the latter tracks the prices of goods in the wholesale markets.
