Modi Govt Pushes Reforms to Increase Agri Exports to $60 bn

In a bid to increase agriculture exports to as much as 60 billion USD by 2022, the agriculture ministry has proposed several measures including empowering of the domestic regulatory authority, capitalizing on e-commerce, review of Essential Commodity Act and setting up a system for market demand prediction.

The proposed ideas have been released under a draft agriculture policy and the ministry seeks the opinions of industry stakeholders and ministerial departments on the same.

India’s export of agricultural commodities to other countries currently stands at $38 billion. The government seeks to increase it to $60 billion by 2022.
