Maternity Leave: Women Hiring to Take a Hit, Cause Loss of 1.2 cr Jobs

Although the enacting of Maternity Benefit Act around a year ago was welcomed by everyone as it showed that India’s keeping pace with the other developed nations, a study by TeamLease sheds light on the flipside of this move.

According to the study by the HR firm, the short-term hiring of women can drop significantly resulting in a loss of around 11 to 18 lakh women in FY19.

The Maternity Benefit Act grants the working women a paid leave of 26 weeks. Earlier, it was only 12 weeks.
