Kerala Floods: ITR Filing Deadline Extended for Keralites

In light of the huge disruption caused by the floods in Kerala, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline for the filing of income taxes from August 31 to September 15 for the Keralites.
The income tax department had earlier extended the deadline to August 31 from July 31 which is the usual date every year. It also stated that individuals failing to file their income tax return (ITR) might be asked to pay a fine up to Rs. 10,000 depending on when they file the return.
