India World’s Second-Most Underinsured Nation, Says Survey

According to a survey by specialist insurance and reinsurance market Lloyd’s, India is the world’s second-most underinsured nation whose insurance gap stands at ₹1.98 lakh crores. This is despite the fact that its insurance penetration level has marginally increased by 0.2% since 2012.

Insurance gap is the difference between the sum assured and that taken. So, if an individual needs ₹1,000  worth of insurance but takes only 300, then the insurance gap would be ₹700.
