India to be Power Surplus in FY19, Says CEA

With the estimates for energy and peak powerful surplus at 4.6% and 2.5% respectively by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), India looks to become a power surplus country in the current financial year. Interestingly, the authority had predicted India to become power surplus in FY18 as well but there was a power deficit of 2.1% and overall electricity of 0.7%.

An expert from the power sector said that although the peak demand is more than 170 GW, our generation capacity stands at 344 GW. The reason behind the supply deficit is that discoms aren’t showing interest in buying this power, they said.
