HRD Ministry Reconsiders Giving Foreign Institutes an Entry into India

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) is working to implement the proposal that can allow foreign institutes to set up their branches in India. This is 10 years after the bill was originally raised.

The Foreign Educational (Regulations of Entry and Operations) Bill, 2010 proposed that international institutes should be allowed to establish their campuses in India. However, it was put on the side as consensus couldn’t be achieved on the process of granting approvals.

MCRD is now looking to discuss the proposal with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), University Grants Commission (UGC), and representatives from various foreign universities. If all goes well, we might have Harvard and Yale institutes in India itself.
