Half of India’s Working-Age Population Not Working: Report

According to the latest survey by the National Sample Survey Office, almost 50% of India’s working-age population is not contributing towards the economic growth, which is a first at such a mass level. 

The survey said that the labor force participation rate (LFPR) which is the population in the age group of 16-64 that’s either employed or seeking employment is 49.8% in 2017-18. During 2011-12, it was 55.9%.
