Govt Authorizes 10 Agencies to Monitor Any Computer Across India

This Thursday night, the “cyber and information security” department of the Union Home ministry passed an order that allows 10 top government agencies to intercept, monitor, and decrypt the data on any computer system. These agencies including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Enforcement Directorate (ED) etc. have been given the authority under Section 68 of Information Technology Act, 2000.

The order has stirred a new controversy as the opposition parties are claiming that it will allow the government to snoop around and violate the privacy of the people.
