Government Considers Paying Cash to Farmers Over Subsidies Under a ₹70,000 cr Plan
January 23, 2019
With the general elections nearing, the government is looking to offer sops to the farmers by offering cash rather than subsidies, sources said. They said that the NDA government is planning to combine all the subsidies such as fertilizer costs and the like and offer cash to the farmers instead. The funds used under this initiative shall be capped at ₹70,000 crores per year which is roughly the same amount that was budgeted by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for farm subsidies earlier.
