Face Recognition Necessary for New Mobile SIM Cards from September 15

Aadhaar-issuing body UIDAI said that people applying for new SIM cards on and after September 15, 2018, will be required to undergo facial verification if they use their Aadhaar for ID authentication.

UIDAI aims to use the face recognition measure for a variety of services including attendance at government offices, banking, insurance, etc. However, it will be in a phased manner starting with SIM registration.

The face recognition measure will be of great help to those who are old and/or in a line of work that requires manual labour who have damaged their fingerprints. So now they can authenticate with facial recognition instead.
