Chhattisgarh CM Follows Kamal Nath’s Lead, Announces ₹61 bn Farm Loan Waiver

This Monday, Madhya Pradesh’s new Chief Minister Kamal Nath signed off a massive farm loan waiver that was promised by the Congress Party. What’s notable here is that he did so merely 2 hours after taking the oath of office. Following his lead, the new Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel announced to waive off farm loans worth ₹61 billion in a similar fashion i.e. merely hours after taking the oath. However, he also announced that the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy will be increased to ₹2,500 per quintal in the interest of farmers.
