Centre Looks to Buy 18 Bullet Trains for ₹7,000 cr

The government is planning to buy 18 bullet trains from Japan under a deal worth ₹7,000 crores that includes transfer of technology for domestic production. An official who is aware of the deal said that the government aims to buy 18 Shinkansen trains sets which will have 10 coaches each. They will run at an average speed of 350 km/hr. 

The official said that Japan’s bullet trains are the safest in the world and those imported will be equipped with automatic protection systems.
