CBI May File Chargesheet Against PNB’s Senior Officials

With regard to the $2 billion fraud case involving public sector Punjab National Bank (PNB), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) may book the lender’s senior officials, police sources said.

In February this year, PNB admitted that two jewellery groups had deceived it by raising credit from different branches of Indian banks that are based in foreign countries. It was a result of unauthorized guaranteed issues by the bank’s staff itself.

Having investigated the case, the CBI may file a chargesheet against the top senior officials. However, the bank is also conducting a separate investigation on its own.
