Calls, Internet Services During Flights to be a Reality Soon, Says Telecom Secretary
October 15, 2018
Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan said that the government will soon offer In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) on domestic and international flights that will allow passengers to access the internet and make calls in-flight. This move is expected to provide the local airlines an additional source of revenue and improve their standing in the market that gets stiff competition from international air carriers.
At present, airlines across the world are offering wi-fi service to their passengers. However, when they reach India, they have to turn off the facility.
Sundararajan said that the Union government is likely to issue a notification regarding IFC implementation within a week or two.
