Banks Keen to Invest Rs. 1.3 Lakh cr in Building Highways: Nitin Gadkari

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the banks are interested in pumping as much as Rs. 1.3 lakh crores for the construction of highways across the country, now that the deployment issues have been resolved.

The majority of banks had stopped funding highway projects by 2014 as many of these projects got stuck. Thus, the NDA government had to turn to procurement and construction model, center-funded engineering, etc. to finance these projects.

Gadkari met with some of the top bankers last week and convinced them to offer financing options.
