All You Need to Know About Rafale Deal
October 12, 2018
The Rafale deal is one of the biggest controversies in Indian politics today. The following are some of the key facts that you must know:
- In September 2016, India signed an agreement with the French government to purchase 36 Rafale fighter jets.
- The original deal was estimated to be worth ₹54,000 crores.
- The deal has a 50% offset clause which will be mostly executed by Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Defense. Congress has alleged that the contract violates the procurement procedure and that the NDA government has promoted “crony capitalist friends” by picking Reliance Defense over Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a state-owned company.
