70% of Mobile Phone Buyers Prefer Cashless Payments

There has been a huge jump in the cashless payments for the purchase of mobile phones today compared to a few years ago, retailers and industry leaders said.

Today, around 70% of the purchases are done through credit/debit cards, virtual wallets, EMIs, etc. compared to mere 20-30% which was the norm a few years ago.

Croma’s CEO Avjit Mitra said that their physical stores account for only 20% of the sale while online purchases with cards make for 55-60%.  Similarly, Bengaluru-based Sangeetha Mobiles retail chain said that cashless payments make for two-thirds of their sale today compared to just 40% a few years ago.
