10% Quota for Financially Weak Useless? Data Shows Job Vacancies Diminishing

The 10% reservation quota in government jobs for the financially challenged individuals that was passed in the Rajya Sabha was met with mixed responses. However, the data shared by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) sheds light on its applicability. It shows there has been a noticeable decline in the number of jobs that are offered by government agencies like Staff Selection Commission (SSC), Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

DoPT data shows that recruitment by the top 3 agencies declined to 1,00,933 in FY17 from 1,13,524 in FY15. The number of employees in CPSEs also reduced to 15.23 lakhs in FY17 from 16.91 lakhs in FY14.
