₹12,000 cr Worth of GST Evasion Detected Between Apr-Nov

Member of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) John Joseph said that the government has detected GST evasion to the tune of ₹12,000 crores between April and November. He said that although there is an e-way bill system in place, tax evasion is still prevalent.

Joseph said that they launched anti-evasion measures in April but since then they have detected ₹12,000 crores worth of GST evasion which is a lot higher than what used to be under the service tax and central excise regime. However, he said that the tax officials have been able to recover ₹8,000 crores worth of GST so far.
