WhatsApp Pay Launched: All You Need to Know

The news about Facebook-owned WhatsApp working on a digital payments service surfaced a long time ago. However, now it has finally launched a beta version of the same on the iOS and Android platform both.
What is WhatsApp Pay?
WhatsApp Pay is a digital payments service that allows the users to transfer funds from their bank account to other WhatsApp users in an easy and simple way.
The payments are processed via the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) channel which is regulated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) through its subsidiary NPCI.
What are the conditions for using WhatsApp Pay?
In order to use WhatsApp Pay feature, you must fulfill the following conditions:
- You must have WhatsApp app installed on your phone.
- You (the sender) and the recipient should be using the updated versions of the app that supports the feature (version 2.18.21 for iOS, and version 2.18.41 for Android as of now) and have the service enabled.
- Your WhatsApp phone number should be the same that’s linked to your bank account for the UPI service.
How to send money using WhatsApp Pay?
- Open WhatsApp app.
- Open the chat window for the user you want to send the money to and tap the “attach” icon. You will find the “payment option”. If you are using an Apple device, you can find the option by tapping the “plus” sign.
- After selecting the payment option, you can enter the amount of money you want to send, and tap “send”.
- To verify the transaction, you will be asked to enter your 4-digits UPI PIN.
- That’s it! The money will be transferred instantly. You will also get a confirmation from your bank via SMS.
Note: Since the service is still in the testing phase, some users may not find the option in their app. However, it will be released for all the users in the next few days.
