Top Tips on Time Management at Work
January 17, 2019
Everyone gets the same number of hours in a day, and yet, some people are able to do more work than others which help them to grow their career faster than the rest.
So, what’s the secret here?
No matter what goals you have set for your career, if you want to succeed, then it’s critical that you master time management.
Following are some tips that can help you manage time:
The first thing that you need to do to be better at time management is self-evaluation. Analyze how you are spending your time at work today and identify the areas where you are using more time than you should. Also, make a habit of making a schedule for every new day in advance. This will help you stay on track and get the work done in the set time.
To save more time, group similar tasks together. For instance, rather than sending emails, creating a presentation, and reviewing a client’s feedback at different times of your day, do all of them together. You will be surprised to see how much time you can save by developing this habit.
Don’t set ambiguous deadlines for your tasks such as “soon”, “quickly”, or “later”. Be more precise and assign a certain number of minutes or hours to each task.
One of the biggest reasons why many workers fail to finish their tasks on time is that they find it hard to say “no”.
For instance, your colleague is stepping out for a smoking break and he invites you. You still have a lot of work to do and yet you go for it. There are many other examples like this that highlight that it’s important to control your impulses and make the right decisions.
