MBA: Topic-Wise Tips for CAT Exams
January 04, 2019
CAT or Common Admission Test is the biggest exam for MBA aspirants in India. If you are preparing for the same, then you will benefit from the following tips for its different sections:
Quantitative Ability
For this section, you must have a strong grasp on basic mathematical concepts that you learned in school till grade 10. So, some of the subjects that you need to master include algebra, time speed distance, arithmetic tools, etc. You don’t need to solve complex problems that require elaborate calculations, you only need to solve small problems using basic concepts. However, you will need to race against time and work under pressure. That’s where the real challenge lies.
To do well in QA, you need to practice a lot. Write down all the formulas that you will need and memorize them all. Work on your timing and record your results to improve performance.
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning
This section requires skill more than knowledge. There are a few concepts here so you can only improve your performance with practice.
The 3 main skills that you need to work on for this section are comprehension, interpretation, and analysis. However, it helps if you follow these steps for the majority of problems:
- Pick a statement that gives direct information
- Pick another statement that’s related to an element in the previous statement
- If there is no connection between the two statements, then pick a statement that has fewest possibilities and use trial and error
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
This section tests you on grammar and vocabulary. For the passages, you want to start with the easiest one first and for vocabulary-based questions, there is no other option but to read books and newspapers on a daily basis to expand your lexicon. Also, don’t ignore the non-MCQ questions thinking they don’t attract negative scoring; they are important for a good CAT score.
So, these were some of the best tips you can get for CAT exam preparation. However, if you are a working professional, then you can also opt for MBA for executives. ask.CAREERS offers affordable UK MBA programs that can give your career a big boost and share opportunities for jobs overseas.
