An Executive MBA (EMBA) program is a 1-year advanced management program designed for those who already have a few years of work experience and want to give their career a boost. It’s a shorter course compared to standard MBA which is a 2-years course, and it’s often sponsored by the employers. However, the question is, is it really worth it? The answer is “yes”.
Benefits of EMBA
When you are working in an industry, you expect a growth in both salary and your job profile one year after another. However, when your education stops and no new skills are added to the resume, then the salary growth can fail to catch up with the pace you are expecting. More often than not, gaining work experience isn’t enough. This is why a well-recognized and practical course like EMBA can be highly effective.
An EMBA allows you to learn new techniques in the management and finance arena, and sharpen the ones you already know. If you are risk-taker and have the innate qualities of a leader, then an EMBA degree on your resume can easily catapult you to the top of the corporate ladder. You should also expect a considerable hike in your salary once your complete the course, granted it’s from a decent institute.
The Other Side of the Story
EMBA has many benefits as explained above. However, it does have its share of problems. For starters, for many, it’s not possible to manage a full-time job along with part-time studying. If you have to fund the program yourself, then that alone could be a big problem.
Overall, the benefits of EMBA certainly outweigh the problems. So, if the option is available, then you should go for it by all means.
