Meet VoB, the Muslim girl trio who are challenging the systems, breaking the barriers and charging ahead as metal warriors.

When it comes to women and music, the most common thought is that of someone who has a leaning for softer tunes or someone who loves dance music. Not to say women don’t lock rock or metal, they sure do; but when it comes to creating that kind of music the community is not that large. And in the day and age that we are at, where society dominates our thinking, working and even music tastes, meet this fantastic girl trio from Indonesia, who have formed the band called VoB. Voice of Baceprot, as they are addressed, is up to some kick-ass work, ever since they discovered their love for metal music.

Who would have thought that three, hijab wearing, young women can take on with such power and unite morals through the medium of metal music? Sounds so unconventional at the first thought, given how we always see women to be the mellow, homely, with a girl-next door kind view. But here are these three wonderful teenagers who prove us all wrong. Well, here’s more about them…

Firdda Kurnia is the vocalist and guitarist of Voice of Baceprot. She formed the metal group along with drummer Eusi Siti Aisyah and bassist Widi Rahmawati. Erza Satia, the music teacher who introduced the girls to metal music is now their manager and says that girls are showing a different side of metal music to the world. VoB, has achieved great acclaim throughout Java and appeared on national television, and have been rewarded for the dedication, who not only diligently practices the metal music but spends a lot of time brainstorming original lyrics for their songs. They perform covers of their favourite metal bands which includes System of A Down, Rage Against the Machine, Metallica and Slipknot.

Marking a following of more than 10K on Instagram; slicing down the gender and religion stereotypes, the VoB are adding a shade of courage to culture. Their songs speak about the state of education for girls in Indonesia as well as social issues such as religious tolerance and climate change.

Firdda Kurnia says that “I think what we want to say to the young women of Indonesia is, don’t beafraid of being different,” said Kurnia. “Don’t be afraid to shout your independence.”

The Enemy Of Earth Is You” is their first big viral hit. The song revolves around environmental destruction has already been shared on Facebook over 11,000 times since it was first posted on April 3.

More power to these ladies, who make heads turn and own the world with a bang!
