Uber to Pay $148 mn Over 2016 Data Breach

Global cab aggregator Uber has been asked to pay $148 million to settle a 2016 investigation regarding a massive data breach which it was found guilty of hiding intentionally. The settlement amount will be distributed across various states in the US. 

It was alleged that hackers had stolen personal information of 57 million Uber users but the company kept the information to itself. The investigation revealed that it paid the hackers $100,000 to destroy the data.
