Non-Filers to Get Only 21 Days for Filing IT Returns, Says CBDT

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said that individuals who carried out high-value transactions but haven’t filed their income tax returns yet will get 21 days to file their returns or submit their responses. The said period will start from the day an individual receives email or SMS from the income tax department.

The board said that in case no response is received from the intimated non-filers, then proceedings shall be initiated against the same under the Income Tax Act, 1961.
